Apply for an extended deadline for submitting the tax return – person and business
If you’re having trouble meeting the deadline, you can apply for an extension. You cannot apply after the deadline has expired, so make sure you apply early if this applies to you.

Online applications are granted automatically.
Deadline for persons: 30 April
This deadline applies to:
- income recipients
- pensioners
Deadline for businesses: 31 May
This deadline applies to:
- sole proprietorships and companies
- share owners in businesses assessed as a partnership

Applications that are submitted on paper will take longer to process.
If you or your spouse is running a business or is a self-employed person, you have the same submission deadline as your spouse
If one of the spouses applies for an extension and it is granted, the other spouse will automatically get the same deadline.
Both persons and businesses may be granted an extended deadline:

- self-employed persons and businesses
- share owners in businesses assessed as a partnership
- foreign businesses with a permanent place of business in Norway (branch)
You can apply for one month’s extension. We do not grant longer extensions.
If you’re self-employed or a business and do not submit the tax return or apply for an extension by the deadline, you may have to pay additional tax or an enforcement fine.
An extension may result in you getting your tax assessment notice later
If you apply for an extension, you may get your tax assessment notice later.
Unfortunately, we cannot give you a specific date for when you’ll receive your tax assessment notice. You’ll be notified.
