Received too much child maintenance or other maintenance payments

If you’ve received too much maintenance, the maintenance payer is entitled to a refund of the money – either as a private settlement or by offsetting the amount against future maintenance payments.

NAV will notify both parties when too much maintenance has been paid. Then it’s up to you to arrange the repayment between yourselves.

Alternatively, the one who has paid too much maintenance may apply to offset the amount against future maintenance payments. Then you’ll receive a smaller amount each month, until the offset has been carried out.
