Maintenance payments when the child is over 18
When your child turns 18, remaining child maintenance payments go directly to the child and not through you. If the child is in upper secondary school and is over 18, he/she may apply for continued child maintenance.
The child maintenance usually lasts through the month the child turns 18. If you’ve not received full child maintenance payment when your child turns 18, we’ll continue to claim payments from the maintenance payer.
Power of attorney when the child has turned 18
When the child has turned 18, the child is party to the case in his or her own right, and you as a previous maintenance recipient will no longer have access to the case. If the child wants your assistance, the child can provide you with a power of attorney.
